The mission of the Camas Soil Conservation District is to set high standards for conservation of the natural resources
in the District; to encourage cooperation among landowners, government agencies, private organizations, and elected officials;
and to ensure an adequate natural resource base for present and future generations.
Most
Significant Natural Resource Improvement, Project, or Accomplishment
The Camas SCD continued to promote strong partnerships with State and
Federal agencies, utilizing the State of Idaho’s Water Quality Program for Agriculture (WQPA) and the federal Environmental
Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) as base funding to assist producers with conservation efforts. Complete resource management
system (RMS) planning was encouraged to facilitate comprehensive resource management including irrigation improvements, stream
stabilization, spring developments, and prescribed grazing management. The Camas SCD also assisted the
Camas County P&Z by providing review of land use plans and proposed subdivisions. Priority # 1 Improve Water Quality and Reduce Soil Erosion Accomplishments:
The Camas SCD continued to monitor water quantity within Camas County by measuring
ground water well depths.
Priority # 2 Improve Rangeland Accomplishments: The Camas SCD encouraged the control of noxious weeds in Camas County through biological weed control
by co-sponsoring the Camas “Bug Crew”. We also assisted a producer with ten spring developments
and exclosure fencing around livestock watering facilities to improve livestock distribution and protect riparian areas.
Priority #3 Development of Manmade Community Park Project
Accomplishments: The Camas SCD is playing a vital
role in the local community by not only participating, but facilitating community meetings and environmental planning to develop
and design a local public-use land area into a multi-use center where locals and visitors alike can enjoy a natural, environmentally
friendly park area in Fairfield.
District Operations
Accomplishments: The SCD promoted involvement
in the Locally Led Working Group process for prioritizing resource aspects for identification and ranking to develop ranking
criteria for project development, and actively attended and supported the Wood River WAG and TMDL development.
The Camas SCD provided support and requests to the Wood River RC&D on measures and
committees for conservation efforts in the District. The SCD also worked in cooperation with the CCCWMA
to help the control of noxious weeds.
District Information and Education Accomplishments:
The Camas SCD assisted in and promoted
the Little City of Rocks Environmental Workshop for fifth grade students, awarded college scholarships, held poster and speech
contest with the local school on natural resource topics, and sponsored an Envirothon team. Synopsis of financial assistance coordinated for constituents with the District Conservation
Partners to plan, design and implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) to protect, enhance, and conserve Idaho's renewable
resources.
